Monday, April 5, 2010

This is a photoshoot I did about two weeks ago. Just a simple setting as you can see. It's just a random photoshoot for my portfolio. Soon I'll upload the lookbook pictures for my future clothing line 'Riddyculous' where I was the photographer. Stay tuned! :D

Birds of Paradise

I am more of a visual person. I love the arts, any form of it especially paintings and visuals. I love bright colours. I express my feelings and emotions through paintings and my visual works. Last year during the foundation year, I did quite a bit of line drawings, which I like the most. Here are some of my line works which I did last year.

And for your info, I am a very random person! I love to draw random lines, shapes and also bold dark lines. This is my very first line drawings that I did. I spent about 2 days to complete this work of art. =D

These two(below) are the close up view of the visual work above.

After completing the piece above, I was very much developed my interest in line drawings. I think this form of art is very ME. Seriously. I am a perfectionist, and I love details. So what next is that I did a line work for my 2D class and I got A for this piece. The title of this piece is 'Birds of Paradise'. Lets see if you guys could spot the number of birds in this piece. YES THERE ARE BIRDS!

Before....

And after...

Hope you guys lovin' it. CHEERS babe!

MAKING IT BIG FOR THE FIRST TIME

A year ago, in November I took part in the Santino Rice t-shirt design competition. Santino Rice was a contestant in Project Runway Season 2 and he was the second-runner up in the final runway show. I got to know about the competition when I visited the newurbalmale.com website. It was 8 days before the submission, and at that point of time I was having my school break. I joined the competition, without even thinking of winning; just for the fun of it.

I did embroidery of Santino's face on the t-shirt. And oh God....It took me 8 days to get it done! It wasn't easy, to be honest. And also, I did freehand line drawings on the shirt!

I could still remember during the submission day....It was an hour before time, and I had a lot more to do. I rushed for quite abit, managed to get it done on time. I was in the cab, and my hands were all shaking. I felt good that I got to submit it on time!

Few days after submission, I received an e-mail message from Discovery Channel Travel & Living. This is what I received :

Dear Riddy,

Congratulations! You have been shortlisted as one of the 10 finalists for the Flex Your CreativiT contest. Your T-shirt will be exhibited at The Heeren, starting Thursday, 16 Nov.

Santino Rice will pick the top 3 winners on Wednesday, 22 Nov at The Heeren at 6pm. Please be there!

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I was so happy that I got into the finals! But at one point of time, I also couldn't believe that I got into the top 10.

I ended up winning the grand prize! I was so happy because Santino himself was the judge and he was really impressed with my design and chose mine as the winner. I won a $1000 cash and a dinner for two with Santino Rice! HURRAY!

The winning design for the competition:

Dinner with Santino Rice and my bestie, Paige. An autograph by Santino Rice on my sketch book.=D

And finally, another surprise of my life! I was featured with Santino Rice in the January issue of SEVENTEEN magazine (Singapore). =D

Alright, cheers everyone! =D

ETHAN JAMES (FORD MODELS, NEW YORK)

Recently I designed three different looks for a friend of mine that I met online, Ethan James. Ethan is a model from Grand Rapids, Michigan. His mother agency is Traque Management. He is also a model for Ford in New York City. Hopefully if luck is on my side, next year in March I will be flying to New York City for Ethan's photoshoot where he will be wearing my design. Currently I am actually waiting for a green light from Jesse his agent. Just keep our fingers crossed yeah? lol. I will be uploading pictures of the processes of making the outfits soon! Stay tuned alright. CHEERS! =D

Fashion sketches drawn by me before colouring it using Copic Markers and pens.I love bright colours! You will see more of it in my design in the future.
